Talk:Main Page

From Draconity.org Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

There is a discussion page for drafting and writing TODOs, please use it. Do not fill the wiki pages with any kind of information that is not informative and relative tho the page.

Contents

Purpose of the main page.

In the original wikipedia, but also on other big ones, like wikinews, the main page's purpose is to bring to the user up with fresh data. Although other wikis exist (example: a distro's manual) those instead enlist the main categories a new user might be interest into.

I believe the category of this wiki would fall on the second, unless we actually have fresh data to publish: in fact, would we consider things like contests/other community events to be fresh data to be listed here, or maybe not, because they relate just to the forum, and this wiki remains just for a public informative purpose?

--> Then a summary of some important starting points, brief sections that link to more extensive pieces should be available. There is still the possibility of doing a 'featured' article or some such thing. Always open for suggestions Arkturium (talk) 03:07, 21 July 2015 (EDT)

TODO List

[moved from the main page]

  • MAKE A MORE ELEGANT MAIN PAGE
  • SORT OUT THE PORTALS AND MAKE THEM LOOK NICER. LIKE. SERIOUSLY NICER.
  • ORGANIZE CRAP
  • SET RULES
  • THEN WRITE ARTICLES

NOTE: PLEASE LOOK AT OTHER WIKIS FOR REFERENCE.

Other things moved from the Main Page, to add as pages (and find a good short title for them):

Formatting

__NOTOC__ this gets rid of the table of contents

can someone please help me work out how the hell you get rid of the MAIN PAGE title at the top? I've tried {{DISPLAYTITLE:<span style="position: absolute; clip: rect(1px 1px 1px 1px); clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);">{{FULLPAGENAME}}</span>}} and it's not working at the moment, but I don't know if I've implemented it incorrectly Arkturium (talk) 03:52, 21 July 2015 (EDT)

Additional side content for the main page.

A brief description and a few categories for a main page is OK, although it may need a bit of content, maybe even not strictly related to a wiki formatting.

One of these could be:

  • an intruduction (brief history of draconity communities)
  • a story (maybe allegoric)
  • an image (?)

Basically anything that could fill a decent (and definite) amount of space so the page is containing a good introduction to a new user browsing by.

OH MY GOD SOURCE CODE

Use source code from Wikipedia to map out the pages, use it to make this stuff pretty and neat and stuff. I'm pretty new to using it so what I do is really only basic. Arkturium 20:23 9 October 2012 (DEST) -all of which promptly disappeared and I'm clueless as to what I buggered up ):
